News on #Autism

Saw 2 new interesting articles on Autism:
Today, the Interactive Autism Network (IAN), www.ianproject.org , the nation's largest online autism research initiative and a project of the Kennedy Krieger Institute, reports preliminary results of the first national survey to examine the impact of bullying on children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The results show that 63 percent of children with ASD have been bullied at some point in their lives. These children, who are sometimes intentionally "triggered" into meltdowns or aggressive outbursts by peers, are bullied three times more frequently than their siblings who do not have ASD. Read the rest of the article.

So in light of that, is there anything we can do to lessen our kids' autism? Read this...
We often think of autism as a disorder of the brain. And it certainly is. But a new book, “The Autism Revolution,” (Random House) by Dr. Martha Herbert, an autism expert and pediatric neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, and CommonHealth writer Karen Weintraub asserts a more comprehensive and wholistic view in which autism is really a condition of the whole body and should be treated with that in mind.
Here is an excerpt from the book.
I ordered a copy for my e-reader, and it will be available tomorrow.
UPDATE: Read my review of this important book.

The Beast lives!

1995-1998 Ford Explorer photographed in USA. C...

Not really our Beast.
Ours has been around
the block a few more times! :)
Yesterday we left church... or tried to, but the truck (Beast) wouldn't start.

{"Beast" isn't a derrogatory nick-name... It's a '95 Ford Explorer. Two tone, only because the tailgate was from a different vehicle and the truck was never repainted. It's a tough, big beast. It's a wonderful vehicle. :) }

Three guys from church (including one of the pastors) and my husband were all under the hood. Turns out the fuel pump wasn't working. However, the upside was that they all felt if we fixed the fuel pump (for about $500), the truck would last another year. We totally thought it would fail inspection, and we were going to have to use our tax return to get another vehicle. Not having to buy a new vehicle would be wonderful!!

We arranged today to have the truck towed to a garage to have the fuel pump replaced and an inspection done. When the tow truck driver got there, he said Fords have a switch that turns off the fuel system in the case of an accident. As the trucks get older, the switch gets sensitive and a bump can wiggle it off. Sure enough, he reset the switch, and the truck started. The Beast lives!

Thank you, faithful Jesus! Not only do we not have to buy another vehicle this year, but we don't have to pay $500 for a new fuel pump!

Philippians 4:19-20
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

This story will be going in our Memorial Photo Album. When we need a reminder that God provides, we can read the story and remember.

The least of these

I am officially a Prayer Warrior for this beautiful girl, Daria!

Daria is in an orphanage waiting to be adopted. Please join me in praying that Daria's family will find this precious 7-year old soon!

  • John 14:13-14   "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may  bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it" .
  • Matthew 17:20  "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you"
